Contemporary Flintlock Jaeger Rifle
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)

.50 caliber. 31" octagonal barrel length. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Highly figured full length walnut stock has a cheekrest to left side, as well as carved rococo scroll to wrist and forearm. Flintlock jaeger rifle with neoclassical two leaf folding notch rear sight and fleur-de-lis blade front sight. Item features double set triggers, sling swivels, and a patchbox to right side. Side panel has a cast brass filigree fitting with a central grotesque mask. Triggerguard is cast brass filigree and nude figure. Bottom edge of stock has a cast brass filigree fitting, and ferrules are all cast brass in neoclassical style. Patchbox cover is carved elk horn panels with cast silver filigree mounted to top. Buttplate has simple engraving to heel. Forend is carved elk horn. Wrist has two elk horn fittings, one floral shaped vignette carved JD/fecit and a grotesque that appears to be a cat. Old Germanic style lock. 

Condition Report

Very good. Bore is bright. Finish shows sprinkled pitting overall. Wood stock is in good condition. Action is functional.
