Lot Description

19th Century British Naval Dirk

Napoleonic Wars

13.25" single edged spear point blade with 6.5" false edge, 1.06" wide at the ricasso. Overall length is 18.5" with a 5.25" hilt with reeded wood grip, brass pillow pommel cap and 4.5" brass guard with rearward swept quillon the top and a forward swept quillon at the bottom. Blade decorated with engraved patriotic and martial themes including panoplies of arms, a knight, a peacock and an Irish harp. No scabbard is present.

Condition Report

Good. Metal with dull steel gray patina with scattered surface oxidation and discoloration, some light pitting and more moderate pinpricking along the edges. Etching remains mostly visible with some wear and loss. Blade with some minor wobble at the hilt junction.
