Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 5 CDVs of medical specimens issued by the Surgeon General's Office, Army Medical Museum. [Washington, DC], ca 1860s.
Approx. 2 1/8 x 3 3/4 in. (or smaller) CDVs on cardstock mounts (toning, spotting, and occasional soiling/residue to some prints, with surface abrasion to image showing specimens 845 & 4643; mounts with generally light edge/corner wear). All but one with "Surgeon General's Office. Army Medical Museum. Photographic Series" backmark.
Four of the images feature extracted bone specimens, mounted on stands for display and study, some labelled with numbers. The last image features the groin of a man having one leg amputated and suffering from what is likely elephantiasis of the penis and testicles.
