Speech given upon the occasion of conferring Congressional medals on Commander Richard E. Byrd and Warrant Machinist Floyd Bennett, "the heroes of the first flight to the North Pole." Speech also discusses the Amundsen-Ellsworth-Nobile Transpolar Expedition which preceded the Byrd Arctic Expedition. Speech is signed on cover by Richard E. BYRD ("R.E. Byrd"), Floyd BENNETT ("Floyd Bennett"), Lincoln ELLSWORTH ("Lincoln Ellsworth"), and Roald AMUNDSEN (" Roald Amundsen"). Additional note and signature on p16, Edwin MARKHAM, "Dean of American Poets," stating "yes my dear Lester, I am pleased to sign with you ---- Edwin Markham."
