Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 9 occupational photos, incl. carpenters, butchers, housekeepers, & a barber.
A fine selection of occupational photographs, including:
2 images of a butchers wearing aprons, each holding knives, including a CDV and tintype, approx. 3 3/8 x 2 in.
4 tintypes, approx. 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in., or slightly smaller, featuring the following subjects: Two carpenters with tools, near a sawhorse (few nicks and scratches to plate, few light creases). -- Studio view of a barber cutting a young boy's hair (few nicks and surface abrasions, wear to edges). -- Studio view of a young woman wearing an apron, holding a bucket and parasol (some creasing to plate, residue near top right). -- Standing view of a man in uniform, possibly a train conductor (oxidation to front and back of plate, some creasing).
2 tintypes, approx. 5 x 3 1/2 in., including: Studio view of four men posed together, each wearing practically the same shirt and pants. One of the men holds what appears to be a carpenter square, indicating that this could be a group of carpenters (surface loss to lower margin). -- Studio view of two women, almost certainly housekeepers or cooks, standing at a table with a pitcher, basin, and dishware (wear to edges).
Cabinet card, outdoor view of a group of police officers. Most wear the same uniform complete with a badge, and some hold night sticks. Orange, NJ: V. & H. Studio (toning, light soiling).
Together, 9 photographs.
