Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 50+ tintypes of children and families, incl. African American child.
Approx. 51 tintypes of children, some posed alone, some posed with siblings and parents, ranging in size from 2 x 1 1/2 in. to 7 x 5 in. Some tintypes with hand coloring.
Highlights include: 5 x 3 1/4 in. portrait of a serious-looking toddler seated in a chair, with a figure standing in the background, likely the child's mother, hidden underneath a blanket. -- CDV-sized tintype of an infant seated in a studio, with a reflecting screen visible at right. -- Multiple tintypes of children posed with toys, including dolls and carriages. -- CDV-sized tintype of a young African American male subject posed before an interesting backdrop that appears to be partly covered with foliage (heavy wear and creasing to plate). -- 3 x 4 in., sensitively-posed portrait of five young women (image a bit dark, wear to surface including abrasions). -- And others.
Together, approx. 51 tintypes. Conditions range from fair to very good, with varying degrees of wear to plates. Some with bends/creases.
