Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 3 CDV albums containing portraits of ships, soldiers, and civilians.

6 1/4 x 5 in. album containing 22 CDVs featuring images of ships, which appear to be after lithographs/engravings, most with manuscript identification on album page (CDVs very good overall; significant wear to album). Several images bear the studio imprint on verso of Brown & Wheeler (some after photos by Cowes). Ships / scenes include: "H.M. the Queen leaving Cowes in the Royal Yacht." -- "R.Y.S. Club House and Schooner 'Zara.'" -- "Ladybird Marquis of Bute." -- "Foxhound." -- "Cambria Winning the Race from Cherbourg to Hyde." -- "Cunard Royal Mail Steam Ship 'Abyssinia.'"-- Sappho. -- "Steam Yacht 'Alberta' and R.Y.S. Schooner 'Zara.'" -- "R.Y.S. Club House and Schooner 'Zara.'" -- "Northumbria." -- "Cunard Royal Mail Steam Ship 'Russia.'" -- "Cambria." -- "N.Y. Y.C. Schooners 'Henrietta,' 'Fleetwing,' and 'Vesta,' off Osborne." -- And others.

[With:] 2 CDV albums, approx. 6 1/2 x 5 1/4 in. or smaller (each heavily worn, each lacking spine), containing approx. 62 CDVs or CDV-sized tintypes, mostly portraits of men, women, and children, some identified (CDVs overall very good, some with edge and corner wear). One album cover features with four scenes illustrating landmarks in Europe, and inscribed, "From T.S.F. to C.L.S., Jan. 1, 1865." Enclosed are 3 CDVs of men in military uniform, including an officer with verso inscription, "Yours Truly, Capt. H.H. Sincerbox, 128th Regt. N.Y. Vols." The CDV of Captain Sincerbox is credited to B. Moses, New Orleans, LA, and includes two 1 cent US Internal Revenue stamps on verso. Several images are credited to New York photographers, including C.D. Fredricks & Co. (New York), Van Doorn (Brooklyn), Gullmann (Poughkeepsie), Pope (Brooklyn), Union Photograph Gallery (Brooklyn), Slee Bros (Poughkeepsie), Bonta & Curtiss (Syracuse, NY), Finley & Son (Canandaigua, NY), J.D. Vickery (Bath, NY), Brooks (Bath, NY), and Alva Pearsall (Brooklyn).
