Lot Description
[HARRISON, Benjamin (1833-1901)]. -- [HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841)]. Extremely scarce Benjamin Harrison campaign handkerchief "Tippecanoe and His Grandson Too." N.p.: Mrs. August Graham, 1888.
16 x 16 in. printed silk scarf (some spotting, lightly toned, creased).
A scarce campaign scarf in support of Benjamin Harrison, recalling the successful presidential campaign slogan "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too" of his grandfather, President William Henry Harrison. Featuring a printed blue facsimile of an 1840 bandana from the elder Harrison's campaign with a portrait of the general at center surrounded by vignettes of log cabins, a man plowing, and eagles at the corner with ribands reading "Harrison & Reform." Below reads "Harrison - 1840" alongside a copyright statement with the phrase "Tippecanoe and His Grandson Too" printed above in red. SCARCE: No known copies. The original 1840 bandanna and two variants are listed in Threads of History (#122-123), however, this 1888 example is not listed.
