Hindman Announces Fine Art Appointments in New York & Palm Beach: Laura Paterson, Director & Senior Specialist, Photographs & Madalina Lazen, Director & Senior Specialist, European Art

NEW YORK AND PALM BEACH – Hindman is pleased to announce two director appointments in its Fine Art Department, expanding the team of experts who are advancing critical categories within the department. Laura Paterson joins the firm as Director and Senior Specialist of Photographs, based in New York City, and Madalina Lazen joins as Director and Senior Specialist of European Art, based in Palm Beach.

Madalina’s expertise in European Art is sure to be invaluable as we continue to grow our specialist team in Palm Beach.”

A UK native, Laura Paterson brings over 25 years of auction industry experience, during which time she oversaw many record-breaking photographs sales. Most recently, Paterson served as Head of Photographs at Bonhams. Paterson began her career with Christie’s as a member of its photographs specialist team in 1998 before moving to Paddle8 as its Co-Director of Photographs in 2016.

As Director of Photographs, Paterson will lead the department in valuation services, determining the best approach to offering photographs at auction, and building Hindman’s photographs auctions.

With more than 25 years of experience in the auction world, Madalina Lazen is recognized as a leading specialist in European Art who has handled property from numerous illustrious collections from around the world. Lazen most recently served as Vice President of the 19th Century European Art Department at Sotheby’s, where she worked for 14 years. Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Lazen spent nine years as Director of the European Art Department at Bonhams.

Madalina Lazen

Lazen brings an in-depth knowledge of European Art, which includes schools and movements of the 19th and 20th century ranging from Orientalism to Barbizon, Academic, Victorian, Belle Epoque to Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Lazen will oversee developing Hindman’s European Art sales and clientele alongside Vice President of Fine Art, Joe Stanfield.

Hindman will present two Photographs auctions on December 6, including a single-owner sale of Eugène Atget Photographs sold by the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The following day on December 7, the firm will present its American & European Art auction.
