Hindman Auctions Appoints Jacob Coley as Director and Senior Specialist of the Antiquities Department

CHICAGO – Hindman announced the appointment of experienced antiquities specialist, Jacob Coley, as Director and Senior Specialist of the Antiquities Department. As the head of Antiquities, Coley will work to grow the department from its early successes and aims to expand sales to include a broader range of ancient and ethnographic art.

“We are delighted that Jacob has joined the Antiquities Department at Hindman, and his strong experience working with ancient art will undoubtedly be valuable as we continue to grow this critical area of the firm,” shared Hindman’s Senior Vice President of Decorative Arts & Collectibles Molly Morse Limmer. “We saw a fantastic start to specialized Antiquities sales in 2020, and we look forward to seeing how Coley’s expertise and knowledge can help to expand the department.”

Coley brings nearly a decade of art industry experience to his role at Hindman. Previously Managing Director of the Ancient Art Department at Colnaghi, the world’s oldest commercial art gallery, Coley helped to establish the department, and reintroduced the firm to America by launching Colnaghi New York in 2017. During his tenure, he was instrumental in numerous noteworthy sales to both private collections and public institutions. Prior to Colnaghi, Coley was a member of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Greek and Roman Art Department where he aided in securing numerous acquisitions and departmental loans. He also assisted in the preparation of major exhibitions such as Pergamon and the Hellenistic Kingdoms of the Ancient World (2016), Ennion: Master of Roman Glass (2015) and The Roman Mosaic from Lod, Israel (2011).

Hindman conducts over 100 auctions annually and appraises thousands of objects throughout the year, in addition to handling major single-owner collections. The next Antiquities auction will be held on May 27. The firm is currently accepting consignments for summer, fall and winter sales.
