Hindman to Offer a Rare and Exciting Collection of Timepieces, Including Multiple Repeaters

October Auction Follows Enormous Success of Spring Timepieces Sale

CHICAGO – Hindman will offer a selection of over 100 wristwatches and pocket watches in their fall Timepieces auction, October 6, 2020.  This sale follows the outstanding success of the spring Fine Timepieces auction, which sold 100% of the lots offered and far exceeded presale estimates.  The upcoming October auction will offer classic examples by important makers like Cartier, Piaget, and Patek Philippe and Rolex. Closing the auction is a special collection of pocket watches from the Winnetka, Illinois collection of Mrs. Joseph Levy Jr.

“We were thrilled to sell 100% of the timepieces offered at auction in May of this year, and very much look forward to our upcoming Timepieces sale which will be sold on October 6,” shared Kimberly Burt, Vice President of Marketing & Luxury Goods.  “We are particularly excited about the beautiful antique pocket watches included in the sale.”

The collection of Mrs. Joseph Levy, Jr. includes over 30 pocket watches spanning the 18th through early 20th centuries, with multiple minute repeater pocket watches.  Amassed over a lifetime, this carefully curated collection boasts a number of rare and unique timepieces.  A Historic 18K Tricolor Gold Open Face Jacquemart Automaton Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch (lot 70), is decorated with figures of Orpheus and Eurydice and engraved Mq de La Fayette.  Circa late 18th or early 19th century, this pocket watch is reputed to be from the collection of the Marquis de Lafayette, the French and American Revolutionary War figure.  It holds a presale estimate of $10,000-20,000.  Another highlight from this collection is a Patek Philippe, Spaulding & Co., 18K Yellow Gold Minute Repeater Open Face Pocket Watch from 1906, estimated at $5,000-7,000.

Among the top lots of the auction are a selection of beautiful diamond watches.  Examples by Cartier and Harry Winston, among others, will be offered, including two from the Chicago collection of Norene Goldstein, whose jewelry and fine art collection were highlights in Hindman’s spring and fall sales.  These include a Harry Winston, 18K White Gold and Diamond ‘Avenue Classic’ Wristwatch (lot 22), estimated at $10,000-15,000 and a Cartier, 18K Yellow Gold and Diamond ‘Santos Demoiselle’ Wristwatch (lot 23) expected to sell between $6,000-8,000.

The October 6th auction will be held at Hindman’s Chicago saleroom with bidding available via absentee, telephone and four online bidding platforms.  Preview for the sale will be held by appointment.  Please visit HindmanAuctions.com to view the catalogue or schedule an appointment.
