Lot Description
Three Silk and Lace Undergarments, 1900-1910s
A machine-sewn blue silk crepe chemise with a picot edge, crew neckline, flared elbow-length sleeves and a slit at the center back neck with a two-snap closure. A matching hand-sewn blue silk taffeta petticoat with a center back hook and eye closure and a flared hem of alternating horizontal bands of blue silk satin ribbons and cream lace. The pink petticoat is made of a silk twill with a three tier hem trimmed with off-white lace. The petticoat is almost entirely hand-sewn except for the pleats at the center back. A wide silk ribbon is sewn horizontally to the back of the petticoat to adjust the fullness of the flare. All three items unlabeled
Condition Report
Blue chemise is in overall good condition with minor dye discoloration, under arm soiling and one small hole at the center front waist. Blue petticoat is in overall good condition with one loose seam at the left waistline and a thin, threadbare silk casing on the inside waistband. Pink petticoat has numerous stains and many tears around the waistband. This petticoat is combined with the blue petticoat in this lot due to it also being completely sewn by hand and made with a similar pattern.
