Lot Description
Cotton Nightgown with Lace Bonnet, 1910s
An expertly made cream cotton nightgown embellished with lace edging and insertion. A wrap-style bodice with a gathered center front with flounce that extends up and into the collar. Long sleeves with a flounced lace cuff. There is a waist seam only in the front, which is gathered with a peach silk ribbon, while the back hangs open. With the nightgown is a white cotton bonnet with lace edging and insertion and finished with a silk satin ribbon for tying under the chin. Unlabeled.
Condition Report
The nightgown and bonnet are in good condition and are wearable. The nightgown has small brown spots on both sleeves and the left side of the skirt and a break in the lace on each of the sleeve hems. There are a few small holes on the cap's silk satin ribbons. Approximate Flat Measurements: Bust: 40" (difficult to measure as the front is gathered) Waist: 45" (difficult to measure as the front is gathered while the back is left loose) Length down center back from top of collar to hem: 49" The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use.
