Baguès was founded in Auvergne in 1840, and established in Paris in 1860. Due to the popularization of electricity and the firm's growing reputation for creating lighting of exceptional quality, an international demand quickly developed.

In the 1920s, Victor and Robert Baguès extended the company's collection with their designs in iron; they also collaborated with renowned designers including Jansen, Raymond Subes and Armand Albert Rateau.
