4to. Numerous illustrations. Original burgundy cloth stamped in silver; original pictorial dust jacket (1 1/2-inch closed tear, repaired verso to front panel).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING of Van Allsburg's classic story, for which he won the 1986 Caldecott Medal. Van Allsburg had previously won the Caldecott Medal in 1981 for another adored work, Jumanji.
