Lot Description
Two Women's Understructure Pieces: One Corset, One Crinoline, 1870s

This lot includes one corset and one crinoline from the Tasha Tudor Collection of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Tasha Tudor (née Starling Burgess, 1915-2008) was a writer and illustrator of children’s books, including Mother Goose and Corgiville Fair. The idyllic, 19th century world she painted in her books was the lifestyle she pursued: for much of her adult life Tudor lived on New England farms, weaving, tending to animals, baking bread, and collecting, mending, and wearing centuries-old clothing.
For detailed biography, see Jeanette Chandler Knazek, “Tasha Tudor,” Tashatudorandfamily.com.

Condition Report
Condition:

The overall condition is very good structurally with the following:

THE FIRST
Structural Issues: The front right bottom hemline has some minor abrasion as well as the back right along a boning casing.
Split/Separated Seams: There are several missing stitches throughout and is evident when looking on the red fabric side as stitching is done in white thread.
Soiling/Spots: There is some overall light soiling throughout the interior of the bodice from age and wear. The front right has a dark spot just under the bust.

THE SECOND
Fading/Color Change: There is some slight lightening throughout the cotton tapes and front wool casings.
Soiling/Spots: There is some dark soiling along the cotton tapes nearest the waist and tops of the bustle. The waistband has some dark soiling along the top and in the front where the waist ties are attached.
Corrosion/Tarnish: Some of the metal grommets have become matte with a slight layer of corrosion which is indicative of wear.

Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use.
