Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. JOHNSON, Andrew (1808-1875). SEWARD, William H. (1801-1872). Partly-printed Presidential pardon stamp-signed ("Andrew Johnson") and signed ("WIll. H. Seward") for W.T. Harwood. Washington DC, 20 September 1865. 

2 pages, 11 1/2 x 18 in, partly printed and completed in manuscript, spotting, toned, a few losses, both leaves mounted to linen with overlay.

A Presidential pardon for W. T. Harwood of Frederick County, Maryland. There are no records of any Harwood serving in any Confederate Maryland regiments, however, three W. Harwoods served in various Virginia units: 24th VA Cavalry, 3rd Virginia Local Defense Infantry, and 35th Virginia Battalion Cavalry - any of which are possibly the man listed here. With a large white seal, Johnson's stamp signature, and Seward's holographic signature.
