Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Archive of William M. Perry, Ohio 7th Volunteer Infantry.

Approximately 12 items including documents and ephemera related to the Civil War service of Private William M. Perry (1842-1916), Co. F, Ohio 7th Volunteer Infantry. Perry enlisted on  20 June 1861 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. He was taken prisoner at Dumfries, VA, on 27 December 1862, paroled 7 January 1863, and mustered out with his company 6 July 1864. The collection is highlighted by the following: a soldier's letter written on June 28, 1862, from "Camp Manasses" on beautifully printed, full-page "Hero's Memento" songsheet letter paper, with blue ink, red border, and eagle and flag motif; two separate special orders dating from 1863 and 1864 with directives to furnish transportation to Private Perry, one for the transport of a prisoner; GAR ribbons, and most notably the "Hand-Book of Battles of in the War of the Rebellion" published by the Illinois Central Railroad Co. in 1887 with a dedication to the Grand Army of the Republic and featuring a timeline of battles of the Civil War.

Accompanied by Perry's discharge paper dated 6 July 1864; a pension document dating to 1880; a 1930 document from the Ohio Adjutant General's Office outlining Perry's service; a reproduction of the New York Herald newspaper 15 April 1865, announcing the death of Lincoln; a 1912 "Condensed Report of 47th Re-Union of 7th OVI Association Held at Euclid Beach, Ohio. August 6th, 1912"; and a typed listing of the battles in which the 7th Ohio participated.
