8vo. Half-title; one folding letterpress table. (Some spotting or browning, small dampstain to upper corner of a few leaves.) Original blue blind-stamped cloth, spine gilt-lettered (Rebacked preserving original spine and endpapers, some light wear to corners). Provenance: C. F. Wreak (signature); S. B. Wakeman (signature); Liberal University Library (bookplate partially removed and struck through).
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, FIRST ISSUE with two quotations facing title-page. Darwin's work "marked a turning point, not only in the history of science, but in the history of ideas in general, for there is no field of human intellectual endeavor that has not been influenced by the thought and fact of evolution" (DSB III, p.571). Freeman 377.
