Lot Description
[MEXICAN WAR]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of Mexican War-period soldier wearing pattern 1839 forage cap.

Sixth plate daguerreotype. (Strong clarity and contrast, tarnish along perimeter where plate meets mat). Housed in half case (corner, edge wear). With penciled identification behind case, “Mr. W.S. Westcott, a ------  friend.” Research indicates that a Lieutenant Westcott fought under General Scott in the Battle for Mexico City on 13 September 1847, but we cannot confirm that this is the same Mr. Westcott.
