Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR - PHOTOGRAPHY] A large format albumen copy photograph of soldiers at camp, [ca 1860s]. With additional photographs.

9 1/8 x 8 in. albumen photograph on cardstock mount, framed to 14 3/4 x 12 3/4 in. (some surface soiling and light abrasions, with wear and light creasing to upper corners). Outdoor scene features around 20 subjects, all in uniform, some seated on the ground, others standing up. A few men are engaged in leisurely activities such as reading a book or holding a coffee pot. It is clear that the original photograph deteriorated where it was covered by a mat with an oval opening.

[With:] A pair of framed oval albumen portraits, one featuring a young soldier in uniform, the other featuring a young woman, likely his wife, holding a baby. Each 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. (sight), matted and framed to 12 x 14 in. Images are toned, with some surface imperfections. Unexamined out of frames.

[Also with:] 8 1/8 x 10 1/2 in. oval albumen composite photograph, mounted on cardstock and matted to 11 1/2 x 13 1/2 in. (several creases including a few tears and one area of loss to right side of photograph). Composite features portraits of dozens of men, women, and children, with one man's portrait, at center, larger than the rest. Abraham Lincoln, U.S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and Philip Sheridan line the top of the oval. -- And 2 other photographs, each approx. 3 7/8 x 5 1/2 in. on cardstock mounts, one possibly copied from an original image. -- Together, 3 mounted photographic prints.
