Lot Description
[WAR OF 1812]. Group of 9 documents related to New York tavern owner Squire Stone (1791-1884), including appointment to 60th New York Regiment of Infantry.
Partially printed doc., Albany, 15 Feb. 1823. Quit Rent ($1.87) paid by Squire Stone on 50 Acres of land. The location is unclear (“69 subdivision”).
Manuscript liquor license, Milford, NY, 5 May 1829 for Squire Stone to serve intoxicating liquors at his dwelling house/tavern. 5 May 1829. 6 x 7-1/2 in.

Squire Stone was born in 1791 in Otsego County, New York. In 1815 he married Lucinda Fuller Goodrich (1797-1868). He had three sons (Calvin, Carder and George) and one daughter (Almira married William Doud, who came to Otsego County about 1815). Stone moved to Hume (still Otsego County) about 1834. In the 1830 census he lived in Milford, although we have not been able to locate any more information on his tavern there. In subsequent censuses (1850, 1860, 1870, 1880) he lived in Hume. Stone died in June 1884 and is buried in Hume Cemetery.
