A Chinese Archaistic Bronze Vase, Fanghu

MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY

明仿古銅鋪首活環耳夔龍紋方壺
in the style of the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 BC), of square section, set atop a straight foot with the swelling belly rising to a slightly flaring neck, on all sides the shoulder set with a Taotie mask handle suspending a loose ring.

Height: 15 1/2 in., 39.5 cm.

Condition Report

In overall attractive stable condition, having a deep patina, and the interior with malachite encrustations, mild surface scratches to the exterior, and foot, alongside a slight bump to one corner of the foot. The underside with three minute punctures that to not appear to threaten the structural integrity of the work. Applied with a museum accession number to the foot.
