Lot Description

CARLI, GOTHIC REVIVAL, CARVED QUARTZ AND ENAMEL SET

Consisting of a pendant containing one oval carved citrine depicting Mother Mary measuring approximately 36.00 x 27.00 mm with blue, white and brown enamel quatrefoil surround, together with a pair of earclips containing two oval carved citrines measuring approximately 18.30 x 14.00 mm with blue, white and brown enamel decoration. Mounted in yellow gold. Pendant: 2 5/8 x 1 5/8 inches. Earclips: 2 1/2 inches long.
Pendant stamp: CARLI.
Earclip screw back stamp: (S maker's mark) 10K.
Gross weight: 41.15 dwt.

Carli is Italy’s oldest jewelry store, passed down in the Carli family since 1655. It was founded by Carlo Carli after he trained as a goldsmith in Belgium. Beginning as a custom jewelry shop, members of the Carli family designed and created jewelry for Italian clients in Lucca where the store still stands today. The store modernized in the 19th century and began importing goods from Switzerland and France. The store remains a traditional fine jewelry store selling pieces from many different eras.

Condition Report

Measurements: The pendant (including bail) measures approximately 2 5/8 by 1 5/8 inches. The earclips measure approximately 2 1/2 inches long.

Overall Condition: Electronic test indicates the metal is 18 karat gold. There are marks on the back of the pendant where it appears a pin back was removed (converted from a brooch). There are moderate scratches to the metal.
