Lot Description
Sioux Beaded Doll, with Necklace
fourth quarter 19th century
thread-sewn cloth body; navy trade wool dotted with white glass beads; quilled choker, tooth necklace, concha belt with drop, and beaded hide boot moccasins
height 15-1/2 inches
A striking feature on this doll is the necklace made of fifty-two teeth from a small, carnivorous animal, maybe a weasel. Each tooth is separated by a white seed bead, and the necklace is fastened in back by a hand-shaped shell button (Fenn 2007: 72).
