Note:
The present lot references the Russian Imperial Family's fascination with Baccarat during the latter half of the nineteenth century and into the turn of the twentieth century. The Romanovs commissioned several impressive articles by the manufacturer to furnish their grand palaces. Tsar Alexander II visited the Baccarat stand at the Paris Exposition of 1867, which resulted in an order of several pieces for the private apartments of his wife, Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna. This example is modelled after one of the Tsar's many other commissions.
Condition Report
Currently disassembled and packed into several boxes. Wired for electricity, but the wiring has not been tested or inspected, and is disconnected as a result of disassembly for transport. In overall good, stable condition when assembled. One glass branch broken across its middle; another is broken where the glass meets its metal endcap. These are both present and could possibly be repaired. There are a few minor chips and faint cracks to a small number of candle cups and prisms, but the torchères are largely complete and the damages are not easily noticeable. The socket covers, which simulate candlesticks, are made of opaque glass; faint cracks exist to one or two of these. There is some dust to the surface but overall they have been well cared for. Additional images available upon request.
