[CIVIL RIGHTS]. A Ticket to Freedom. 16 mm film. Spoken Arts, Inc., 1968. 

10 3/4 in. dia. reel in original case with ink stamps, one identifying the film as "Educational Material," and partially printed label from Spoken Arts, Inc., New Rochelle, NY, addressed to John Glisson, Inc., Richmond, VA. 

23 minute film in sound and color starring Josh White, Jr., written, directed, and produced by Bernard Evslin, Executive Producer Arthur Luce Klein. Designed primarily to be used in the classroom, A Ticket to Freedom addressed civil rights issues of the late 1960s through a musical ballad composed by Josh White, Jr. (b. 1940). (Billboard Magazine, 4 May 1968.)

Son to bluesman and social activist Josh White (1914-1969), actor and musician Josh White, Jr. became popular on the college tour circuit at the time that A Ticket to Freedom was produced. In 1979, White headlined a concert special for PBS and later starred in a stage biography about his father. He was also nominated for a Grammy in 1987 for another tribute to his father entitled Jazz, Ballads, and Blues
