Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 6 CDVs of unidentified naval officers, comprising:

An officer, possibly a Lieutenant Commander, wearing two narrow stripes with unreadable shoulder strap device. The cap bears three bands of stripes with the center devise blurred (1862 Regulations). Gardiner, ME: Clark. -- A casually posed Commander (1852 Regulations). Boston, MA: Silsbee, Case & Co. -- A seated Lieutenant Commander (1864 Regulations) on overseas station posed with a civilian. Lima, Peru: V.L. Richardson. -- A Midshipman or Warrant Officer posed before a painted backdrop. New York: R.A. Lord. The subject is distinguished by a complete lack of insignia other than the cap wreath without a center device (1864 Regulations). -- A vignette of a possible Lieutenant. Geneseo, NY: M.R. Jones. The subject wears shoulder straps with a single unreadable device in the center. -- A seated Lieutenant Commander with three and one narrow strips on the cuff (1864 Regulations) although the single sleeve star is missing, which seems to be a common occurrence given the numerous changes in year to year wartime regulations.. Philadelphia, PA: F. Gutekunst.

Together, 6 CDVs, 2 1/4 x 3 3/4 in., or smaller, on cardstock mounts. All cartes in very good condition, 2 with severely trimmed corners.
