A Gold and Enamel Snuff Box
Likely Swiss, 19th Century
of rectangular form with canted corners, the lid centered with an enamel plaque of a cherub riding a goat between two trees, the top and base of plaque with the inscription 'Souvenir / d'Amitie' on a blue opaque enamel ground, the plaque flanked by foliate decoration and a white enamel border, the sides centered with a floral element and flanked by foliate bands on a blue enamel ground with a black enamel border, the underside centered with an enamel plaque of a strawberry plant, the lid with the engraving 'W. Houghton Esqr/ From his Grateful and Sincere Friend/ J.S. Collard/ May 24th, 1854'.

Condition Report
In overall good, stable condition. The lid opens and closes smoothly. Some very small flaking and loses to enamel decoration on back side of box at edges beneath hinges. Small, shallow indent to interior lid along inscription. Examination under UV light does not show evidence of repair not restoration to enamel. Additional images available upon request.
