A Louis XVI Gold, Lacquer and Enamel-Mounted Nécessaire
Maker's mark obscured, Paris, Last Quarter 18th Century
the scarlet lacquer paneled case of slightly tapering rectangular form with canted corners, having a matte orange enamel ground with gold decorated boarders, the long-sides of lid centered with a banner with the word 'Necessaire', the body of the case with two inset enamel plaques showing figures in a garden setting, the lid lifting open to reveal a fitted compartment with scent bottle, scissors, thimble, bodkin, etui, pencil and aide memoire, the scent bottle with two portrait-miniatures inset on body.

Condition Report
In overall stable, attractive condition. The case with an approximately 1-inch section of trim along base rim loose. Same side with a crack to surface between top of body and medallion. Fabric lining on interior lid likely replaced. Gold wreath on cover of aide memoire detached but present. The scent flask lacking a stopper. Additional images available upon request.
