Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Model 1850 non-regulation Union Field and Staff sword. Manufactured by Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia. 

32 1/4 in. curved, single-edged blade with 18 1/2 in. stopped median fuller. Overall length 38 in. Pierced brass guard with spread-winged eagle and "E. Pluribus Unum" in riband above, surrounded by foliate design (some tarnish). Wire wrapped chagreen grip. Ricasso obverse stamped "Clauberg Solingen," reverse stamped "W.H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia." Lacquer browned steel scabbard with two mounts and suspension rings, and drag (tarnish and surface wear to scabbard, mounts and drag, some dings to surface). Blade acid etched, obverse with central panel "US," flanked by floral/scroll designs, reverse with central panel depicting spread-winged eagle with "E Pluribus Unum" riband, surrounded by floral/scroll designs.
