Lot Description
[COLONIAL IMPRINTS]. A collection of 23 mid-19th-century reprints of colonial pamphlets and manuscripts by Peter FORCE, comprising. 

Peter Force (1790-1868), the 12th Mayor of Washington, D.C. (1836-1840), was an avid historian, archivist, and printer of colonial Americana and the American Revolution. He amassed a large collection of works from the 17th and 18th centuries, reprinting them typically without commentary or editorial notes, preferring the documents to speak for themselves. He published his 4 volume Tracts and Other Papers, Relating Principally to the Origin, Settlement, and Progress of the Colonies in North America between 1836 and 1846 as well as the 9 volume American Archives between 1837 and 1853.
