Lot Description
[INDIANA TERRITORY] -- [WAR OF 1812]. A group of  documents from the Indiana Territory, including:

MCINTOSH, William (ca 1760-1832). Indenture witnessed and signed ("Will. McIntosh"). Knox County, Indiana Territory. 14 August 1811. McIntosh was a fur trader who acquired vast land holdings. He was a party to the landmark US Supreme Court case Johnson v. McIntosh in which the Marshall court upheld the doctrine that American Indians did not hold land and would have only "right of occupancy."

PATTERSON, Squire (ca 1783-1814). Manuscript note signed ("Sqr. Patterson") while in the service of the Indiana Militia during the War of 1812. Addressed to William Coulman at Vincennes [Indiana].1 November 1813. 1p, 7 1/2 x 5 in. (creasing, light soil). "Sir, at this time I am with out money If you can confide In Me for the value of four galllons of whiskey Send it by the Baer [sp?] Wm Gordon and Sir I will pay you the money shortly for the same...." Captain Squire Patterson was commissioned in April 1812 and commanded a company of Indiana Militia during the War 1812. -- Accompanied by a receipt in the amount of $22.92 signed "Sarah McNeely" related to the payment on an account of Squire Patterson for purchases of "Nails & other articles."

DAPRON, Guillame (?-ca1813). Manuscript copy of "The Last Will and Testament of Guill. Dapron."  Vincennes, Indiana Territory. 14 May 1813. 1p, 7 5/8 x 12 5/8 in. ( toning, creasing at folds, small tears along horizontal folds). Witnessed by William McIntosh, Elias McNamee, and Francois Valle. Docketing on verso.

REAUGH, Samuel (1773-1839). Manuscript Indiana Territory surveyors performance bond Samuel Reaugh to Governor Thomas Posey. "Done in Ohio Court." 29 November 1813. 1p, 7 3/4 x 13 1/4 in. (creasing, light toning). Docketing on verso. Reaugh was commissioned Surveyor of Harrison County Indiana.

SHELBY, Isaac (1781-1846). Manuscript document  signed ("Isaac Shelby") as Clerk of Clark County Court of Common Pleas. Indiana Territory. 4 May 1813. 7 5/8 x 12 5/8 in. (toning, creasing, mark from seal at top left). Relating to a witness in the case of David Barnes vs. John Riley. -- Document signed ("Isaac Shelby") as Clerk of Clark County Court and John Weathers related to a case involving Griffith & Co. traders. Indiana Territory. 6  November 1815. 2pp, 7 3/4 x 12 1/2 in. (creasing, toning).

[With:] Additional Indiana Territory documents including: Clark County arrest warrant on $8000 debt, 5 February 1813; Gibson County Sheriff summons, 20 October 1813; Harrison County claim for witness attendance; Clark County summons, 14 March 1815; and Clark County arrest warrant, 17 July 1815. 

[Also with:] Stampless letter regarding pension forms from Thomas Posey to the Clerk of Decatur County, Indiana. Written on verso of print circular from Treasury Department, Second Comptroller's Office, 10 June 1833. [1833]. -- "A Table Showing the Names, Ages, Post Office, Nativity, County Represented,, No. of Sessions Served, No. to Serve, Boarding House, Occupation, Politics, and Remarks of the Members and Officers of the Senate of the General Asembly of teh State of Indiana. Session 1842-3. Indiana Table Showing the Names, etc  State General Assembly 1842-43." -- Indiana "Auditor of State's Office" document signed by Douglas Maguire as Auditor of State. Indianapolis, 22 February 1849.
