Lot Description
An Egyptian Gilt Wood and Bronze Ibis
Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, 664-30 B.C.
Width 5 inches (12.7 cm).
This lot is located in Chicago.
Property from Dr. David Girgenti, Rockford, Illinois
Provenance:
Harold and Mary Moore, New Jersey; thence by descent to Dr. Harold F. Moore (1947-2015), New York.
Acquired by the present owner from the above in 1983.
Condition Report
Inspected under UV light, 10x loupe, and acetone tested. Encrustations around the base of the neck and underside of body where the legs connect; encrustations lift with acetone and fluoresce under UV light. Surface wear, as is typical with age; crackling or abrasions to gilt with a small area now lifting. Oxidation to bronze with malachite patina. Accompanied by a modern black acrylic base, not permanently affixed. Overall in fine and stable condition.
