Counterfeit edition, one of several Lewis and Clark "Apocrypha" editions. "The preparation of Lewis and Clark's authorized account of their expedition encountered a series of delays and the account was not complete and published until eight years after their return. in the meantime, curiosity continued unabated about the deeds of the 'Corps of Discovery,' the mysterious Rocky Mountains, and the tribes of Indians inhabiting the lands between the Mississippi and the Pacific Ocean" (Wagner-Camp p.46).
