CDV-sized tintype portrait of a uniformed soldier wearing a forage cap and holding a rifle. 2 x 3 1/8 in. tintype (light surface wear, light bend); used in gilt paper frame (brown staining, light toning). The subject sits in uniform wearing a forage cap, shoulder belt, belt and holding his rifle. The details of his buttons and buckles have been gilded. 

[With:] Locket with tintype of a Civil War Soldier and copy tintype of his wife. Locket manufactured by Moss and Myers of Sheffield. Each diam. 1 5/8 in. diam. tintype (some oxidation at perimeter, not examined out of case); housed in engraved brass locket, approx. 1 7/8 in. diam. (some tarnish); with 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. original leatherette box with locket manufacturer's mark to interior upper lid. The soldier is in uniform with gilded buttons and tinted checks. In addition, it appears that he is wearing a corps badge, although it is difficult to identify. The wife’s tintype is also tinted. Both images exhibit nice contrast and detail.

[Also with:] 1 1/2 in. diameter tintype portrait with tinted cheeks and gilded buttons (some surface cracking, unevening trimming, not examined out of case); housed in unusual half cloth case (velvet pile mostly worn, scuffing to extremities).
