Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 4 ambrotypes and tintypes of Union soldiers, comprising:

Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of a young soldier wearing a kepi and nine-button frock coat. (Light discoloration to edges, minor surface scratching; unsealed.) Housed in an octagonal Union case (velvet pad loose, chipping to edges). -- Sixth plate tintype portrait of a Union soldier wearing a gold highlighted belt plate and cross belt with gold highlighted breast plate. (Discoloration/toning, darkening throughout; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case with gilt eagle motif. -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a mustachioed soldier wearing a frock coat. (Surface scratching to image; unsealed.) Housed in Union case with scroll design (significant discoloration to velvet pad, lower hinge loose, nicking to edges). -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a seated Union infantryman wearing a frock coat with US belt plate, the "US" being highlighted in gold. (Few scratches/spots of image loss around edges and to subject's pants; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated patriotic pressed paper case. -- Together, 4 portraits of soldiers.
