Lot Description
[ABOLITION -- QUAKERS]. Friends' Miscellany: Containing Memoirs of the Life of Warner Mifflin. Byberry: John & Isaac Comly, [1834]. Sammelband with 3 issues of Friends' Miscellany, 1831-1834. 

12mo, 3 issues (incomplete run, listed as bound): Vol. V, No. 5, April 1834; Vol. I, No. 3, 4, June 1831; Vol. I, No. 8, November 1831. Contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, smooth spine gilt (rubbing to edges, some cracking to spine). Provenance: Letitia S. Gilbert (ownership inscription). 

Articles include: "Warer Mifflin's Memoirs of His Life, Written as a defence against aspersions, cast on him on account of his endeavors to promote righteousness, mercy, and peace, among mankind." A biography of Quaker abolitionist Warren Mifflin (1745-1798) who was an early advocate for reparations for slavery. (1834 issue) -- "Testimony concerning Richard Cooper" who was a Black Quaker, formerly enslaved and emancipated by the Society of Friends. (June 1831).
