Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate ambrotype of a man identified as CSA Lt. Barnett H. Cody, mortally wounded at Gettysburg.

Quarter plate ambrotype half portrait of a young man wearing a patterned vest. (Heavy deterioration to emulsion, loss to image, no preserver present; resealed.) Housed in a fully separated Union case (cracking to case, with large area of loss to front cover). Ink inscription on case interior reads, "Barnett H. Cody. June 1861. Mortally wounded July 2nd 1863 at Gettysburg Pa and died July 23rd." 

Barnett H. Cody enlisted as a corporal on 1 July 1861 and was commissioned into Company G, 15th Alabama Infatnry Regiment that same day. He served with his regiment and was wounded at Gettysburg, dying of his wounds on 23 July 1863. Before his death he had reached the rank of second lieutenant.
