A Queen Anne Volute Carved Walnut Flat-Stretcher Pad-Foot Side Chair

Rhode Island, Circa 1750

the front seat rail marked V, appears to retain the original slip-seat and traces of a historic surface, with a needlepoint upholstered slip seat dated 1927.

Height 40 x width 21 1/2 inches.

Both mentioned examples show a drop on the front seatrail, while this example does not appear to have had one.

Condition Report

In overall fine condition. Retains traces of a historic surface and the original slip seat. Scuff, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Old losses to the beaded edge along the top of the crestrail. Corner blocks are replaced. The crestrail previously cracked and reglued at the junction of each stile support. Top 1" of the splat's shoe foot previously cracked and reglued. Dowel pegs holding the rear seat rail in place are likely replaced. Small losses to the scrolls carved into the knees. Small spots of blue and green paint residue visible in few areas, though unlikely the chair was ever painted at all.
