Four Ensembles by Arthur McGee, 1970-90s


The Arthur McGee Collection can be found in Lots 1 – 18. The collection includes 45 garments and ensembles designed by Arthur McGee (1933-2019), and an archive of personal and business records. A true trailblazer in the fashion world, McGee was the first African American to run the design room of an established Seventh Avenue apparel company in New York City. He was a highly influential designer and has inspired generations of designers through his talent and mentorship. This collection honors the legacy of Arthur McGee and exemplifies the elegant and innovative designs for which he became renowned. The net proceeds of the collection’s sale will benefit a scholarship for emerging fashion designers from Arthur McGee Legacy, LLC.

This lot contains four ensembles. 

THE FIRST 
Grey and black checked suit with single button closure, two patch pockets and straight skirt.

THE THIRD 
Black and white printed two piece emsemble made of synthetic crepe fabric, the print consists of a "v" like pattern througnout. The top has a single front button closure at the front. The skirt is gathered at the waistband and has a metal slide closure at the back.

Condition Report
Condiiton: 

THE FIRST
The overall condition is very good with no visible issues to the jacket or skirt. 


THE SECOND 
The overall condition is fair with multiple small brown spots throughout the skirt and water appears to be water spots in some areas of the skirt. The top has a few faint spots throughout. 

THE THIRD 
The overall condition is very good, closure at the back of the skirt has come untacked but retains all of the pieces. 

THE FOURTH 
The overall condition is good with signs of faint wear throughout, the top has two small white spots at the front. The elsatic in the waistband has been stretched out, one small snag at the front of the skirt. 

Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
