Three Engravings After William Hogarth (English, 1687-1764) and Two Other English Engravings
18th/19th Century
comprising William Hogarth, Serjeant Painter to His Majesty, 1764 after Hogarth's self-portrait dated 1757-58 depicting the artist seated at his easel painting Thalia, the Muse of Comedy; The Industrious 'Prentice Grown Rich and Sheriff of London (Plate 8) and The Industrious 'Prentice Alderman of London [...] (Plate 10) from Hogarth's Industry and Idleness, engraved by Thomas Cook (British, 1744-1818); Hull Summoned by the King, 3rd April 1642 after Charles Parrocel (French, 1688-1752), first published 1728; and Benevolent Cottages engraved by John Scott (English, 1774-1827) after August Wall Callcott (English, 1779-1844), first published 1816.

Benevolent Cottagers: 
Uneven toning to sheet, some small tears at margins, moderate surface dirt and dust. Not examined outside of frame. 

Industry and Idleness: 
Not examined out of frame. Uneven toning, scattered areas of staining, likely from contact with water. Foxing visible at margins. Moderate surface dirt and dust. 

Industry and Idleness: 
Not examined out of frame. Uneven toning, scattered areas of staining, likely from contact with water. Foxing visible at margins. Moderate surface dirt and dust. Small tears at extreme edges. 

Hull Summond by the King:
Not examined out of frame Image completely laid to board. Loss no greater than half an inch along lower edge in center. Horizontal tears through bottom half of image. Uneven toning, scattered areas of staining. Moderate surface dirt and dust. 

Hogarth Self Portrait:
Not examined out of frame. Uneven toning throughout. Moderate surface dirt and dust. Scattered spots of discoloration most visible in margins.
