Lot Description
A Set of Four Monumental Carved Marble Garden Herms Allegorical of the Four Seasons
20th Century
with associated stepped plinth bases, each inscribed with the name of the season in Latin, English and French.
Height of Autumn 102 x width 33 x depth 26 inches (herm and base overall); 
Height of Winter 102 3/4 x width 30 x depth 25 7/8 inches (herm and base overall);
Height of Spring 101 3/4 x width 30 1/2 x depth 25 7/8 inches (herm and base overall);
Height of Summer 101 1/2 x width 31 3/4 x depth 25 7/8 inches (herm and base overall).

Condition Report
Foot of sculptures (each): 16 x 16 inches. Bases: 20 1/2 x width 26 x depth 25 7/8 inches.

Winter:
Height of herm only 82 x width 30 x depth 23 inches.

Condition: Having a chip to one corner of the foot, scattered instances of chips and roughness throughout. An area of green discoloration in the recesses behind the figure's arm and green coloration in recesses consistent with exposure to the elements. 

Spring:
Height of herm only 83 x width 30 1/2 x depth 20 inches.

Condition: Chips and roughness to edges and corners of the foot. With noticeable green surface grime and deposit in crevices of figure's hand, the basket, and hair, consistent with exposure to the elements. Lacking tip of proper right pinky and index finger. 

Summer:
Height of herm only 81 x width 34 x depth 20 3/4 inches.

Condition: Orange discoloration to the foot and green discoloration from surface deposit, both commensurate with exposure to the elements. The figure's proper left wrist previously detached and repaired. Chips and roughness to edge of the foot. The base with a small chip to one corner and minor roughness along the bottom edge.

Autumn:
Height of herm only 83 x width 33 x depth 20 1/2 inches.

Condition: Discoloration to base, surface grime and deposit in crevices throughout, commensurate with exposure to elements. Chips and roughness to the base from moving and handling. Scattered instances of green coloration to the stone, not immediately noticeable. Some small chips and roughness to edges. 

Each separate base with minor chips to corners and roughness along edges, with light green surface grime from exposure to elements.
