Lot Description
A French Gilt and Patinated Bronze and Rouge Marble Clock Garniture
Jacques Gudin, Paris, Circa 1820
comprising a clock and a pair of two-light candelabra, the clock signed on its enamel convex dial, the back of the clock movement stamped with Japy Frères medaille d'honneur pastille, numbered 2730 and stamped A G within a circle, with blued steel screw heads.
Height of clock 21 3/4 inches; height of candelabra 15 3/4 inches.

Note:
A very similar example signed Breguet with an identical kneeling putto holding a clock is illustrated in Tardy, French Clocks the World Over, Part 2, p. 302, and noted "the bronze is by Droz, a Swiss sculptor brought out by Thomire."
Condition Report
Overall excellent quality and near fine condition, bronze patina is original and has a pleasing finish. Some wear and discoloration to the gilt bronze in areas. Seems to run, but without a pendulum.
