Lot Description
[MILITARIA]. Sixth plate tintype of Fort Smith, Arkansas. November 1864.
Landscape-oriented outdoor view of Fort Smith, showing, from left to right, the light colored guardhouse, two similar-looking large buildings that acted as officers' quarters, and the enlisted barracks. (Image quite dark, with chemical deterioration creating a halo effect around the scene, spotting, and some abrading; unsealed,, with corners of tintype folded over onto image side.)
The barracks building was also used as "Hanging" Judge Isaac Parker's courtroom after the war.
Early Photography Collection of Jules Martino, Silverton, Oregon
