Lot Description
ANDROS, Sir Edmund (1637-1714). Copy document secretarially signed ("E. Andros"), as Colonial Governor of Virginia. 28 October 1697.
One page, 7 3/16 x 11 3/4 in. Several separations, some with old adhesive repairs, creased, spotting, wear to edges and creases. Docketed verso.
Manuscript document grants "...unto William Willett 600 six hundred acres of Land in Northampton County on the old plantation Creek..."
Beneath secretarial signature, document is designated "A Copy," with the name Miles Soldenser B. Waller.
Sir Edmund Andros had a long and storied military and political career in the American colonies on behalf of the British Crown before being appointed Governor of all British provinces in North America excepting Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia in 1688. Upon the deposition of King James II the following year, the people of Boston arose against and imprisoned Andros. He was eventually returned to England, and the new king William III chose Andros to become Governor of Virginia, serving from 1692-1698; and he served as Governor of Jersey from 1704-1706.
