Lot Description
**Abercrombie & Fitch Retailer Marked Auguste Francotte "The High Gun" .410 SxS Shotgun
.410 gauge. 26" tapered round barrels. 15.25" length of pull. 1.75" drop to comb. 2.5" drop to heel. 3" chamber length. Full and modified chokes. SN: 1432. Blued barrels, color casehardened frame, checkered walnut forend and straight checkered wrist butt with serrated horn buttplate. Double barrel box lock shotgun with automatic ejectors, double triggers, and sliding thumb safety on upper wrist. Barrels with matted rib and bead front sight, engraved THE HIGH GUN on the rib. The barrels are additionally engraved AUG. FRANCOTTE MAKER AND PATENTEE/MADE IN BELGIUM on the right barrel and ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co/SOLE US AGENTS on the left barrel. Water table and bottoms of barrels with the usual assortment of Liege inspector, controller and proof marks, along with the gauge mark 10.4. Matching serial numbers are present on the bottom of the barrels, the water table, inside the forend and on the triggerguard tang. The bottom of the receiver is additionally marked in an arc AUGUSTE FRANCOTTE/LIEGE. The frame is nicely engraved with floral motifs around the pins and screws, as are the screw heads, and the fences and the top lever are stippled. A German silver escutcheon is in the toe line of the stock, which is engraved with the initials R.M. A really lovely little double that is certainly light and handy.

Condition Report
Fine. Bores are fine, bright and smooth with some old residue that should mop out easily. Barrels with most of their blued finish with a couple of scattered minor finish nicks and some areas of freckled surface oxidation near the muzzles. The blue on the triggerguard is toning plum. Markings remain clear and crisp. Frame with most of the color casehardening showing some fading and high edge wear resulting in some thinned loss. Engraving remains clear and crisp as well. Mechanically functional action, top lever sits very slightly to the right with the action closed, as it should. Stock with some light handling marks and minor surface scuffs, and some small areas of loss on the horn buttplate.
