Madeleine Albright's Burlwood Standing Jewelry Box

In 2009, Secretary Albright published Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box, a book rich with photographs of her pins and text explaining the role that her jewelry played in her diplomacy. More than 200 of her pins went on to be exhibited in museums and most of the libraries dedicated to former presidents, Democrats and Republicans, going back to FDR. Secretary Albright arranged for the donation of these pins for public display at the National Museum of American Diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C. Freeman’s | Hindman is proud to make available for auction Secretary Albright’s actual jewelry box from her home that she used to hold her "diplomatic arsenal" and other cherished pins, necklaces, and bracelets collected throughout her life.  

Height 47 1/2 x width 18 x depth 13 1/2 inches.
Condition Report
Appearing in overall fairly good, sturdy, and ready to place condition. The burlwood exhibits scattered cracks to the veneer consistent with age and use as well as a few white scuffs and areas of fading. The sides of the case with heavier scratching where the doors have contacted the lower portion of the case when opening and closing. These scratches are largely hidden when the case is closed. The mirror in the top compartment of the jewelry box is in good condition. The lined drawers with some surface dust and a few negligible spots of discoloration. Together with two keys to lock the side cabinet doors. Additional images are available upon request.

The jewelry box dates to the second half of the 20th century.
