Particularly noteworthy are the multiple speeches delivered by General Benjamin Franklin Butler, whose political career following the Civil War was the result of what he perceived to be President Andrew Johnson's weak reconstruction policies and insufficient support for Civil Rights. Also included are speeches from future president James Garfield, Governor Oliver P. Morton, future president General Benjamin Harrison, and General George W. Morgan.
