Lot Description
HOLBROOKE, Richard. To End a War. 1998. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. INSCRIBED BY HOLBROOKE TO SECRETARY ALBRIGHT.

Inscribed: “6 PM, June 17, 1998 at Waldorf-Astoria on the day before… To Madeleine Albright, whose “hip-joined” support & friendship has meant a great deal - whose commitment to peace in Bosnia is inadequately described here, but who did more than people will know – And with high anticipation of our continued collaboration of the rest of the administration - Dick.”

Secretary Albright worked closely with Former Assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrook. While the two didn’t always agree, Albright voiced her support for Ambassador Holbrooke regarding his commitment to peace: “No one has been more energetic or more generous with his time in pursuing peace in the Balkans than Richard Holbrooke. America needs his voice at the United Nations.” (May 6, 1999, “Statement on Ambassador Richard Holbrooke”).

In original binding and dust jacket (condition generally fine).

Provenance: Secretary Madeleine K. Albright (inscription, bookplate).
